We have received multiple messages asking about Fright Farm’s plans for 2020. We would like to announce that we have made the difficult decision to bring an end to Fright Farm Haunted House. We want to sincerely thank the tens of thousands of community members who supported our event over the past 24 years. We also wish to thank our many longtime business sponsors, the Ramsey County Sheriff's Office, Ramsey County Property Management, Parks and Recreation, the University of Minnesota Extension Service, and the City of Maplewood for their support and assistance.

Although COVID-19 would have made it difficult or impossible to open our event this year, there are other factors that brought us to this decision. Ramsey County has generously allowed us to use the historic poor farm barn free of charge since the beginning. Recent updates made to the building have made it impossible for us to hold our event in that space. Earlier this year, in cooperation with the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office and Ramsey County Sheriff’s Foundation, we liquidated all Fright Farm sets, props, and equipment and removed all items from the barn.

Fright Farm has continued to be very popular year-after-year. Over the past 24 years, tens of thousands of community members have come to Fright Farm to enjoy a fun and safe event. We have heard from families who have had three generations attend our haunted house.

By paying admission, all who attended were directly supporting the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Foundation and the D.A.R.E. program prior to that. Hundreds of thousands of dollars were raised that helped provide grants to numerous community and public safety programs throughout Ramsey County. The generosity of our loyal customers has truly helped make Ramsey County a better place. We are incredibly thankful for your patronage.

Lastly, we would like to thank our dedicated and selfless volunteers. Hundreds of Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office staff and community members volunteered their valuable free time to help plan, design, build, operate, and tear down our haunted house each year. We conservatively estimated that more than 5,500 annual volunteer hours were needed to make the event happen. Many of our volunteers have been involved since the beginning. We have had multiple generations of families volunteer together. We have had multiple volunteers meet each other while volunteering and eventually get married. Through the incredible generosity of our volunteers, we were able to take our haunt from a small event in 1996 to a large-scale, professional-quality, community staple where over 10,000 people attend annually.

 

Many haunted houses have come and gone since 1996 but Fright Farm has remained and that is entirely due to the commitment and selflessness of our volunteers. We are truly a family and we will very much miss our time spent together putting on one of the best haunted houses in Minnesota.
